The Holiday Glow Packing List: 9 Things Frequent Flyers Never Forget
Nine things the bronze-all-August crowd packs without thinking — including the cabin-bag rule that catches everyone out.

There are two types of holiday packer: the one who brings four pairs of heels and no SPF, and the one who comes home the same colour they left — but deeper, glowier and without a single peeled shoulder. This list is how you become the second one. Nine things frequent flyers never leave behind, in the order you'll use them.
1. An exfoliating mitt (used before you fly)
Your glow is built the night before the flight, not the first day by the pool. A proper full-body exfoliation 24 hours before travel clears the dry, dull layer that makes tans patchy and short-lived. Pack the mitt too — a light once-over mid-holiday keeps everything even, as long as you're not sunburnt.
2. SPF for body — and more than you think
The standard guidance is around 35ml per application for a full body, reapplied every two hours and after swimming. Do the maths for a week in the sun and one small bottle is laughably short. Pack at least two full-size bottles per person, SPF 30 minimum, broad spectrum. Buying it at the resort is a tax on optimism.
3. A separate face SPF you'll actually wear
Body sunscreen on your face under makeup is a recipe for breakouts, which is why it gets 'forgotten' — and the face, neck and chest are exactly where sun damage shows first. A lightweight facial SPF 50 that sits well under makeup removes every excuse. This is the single highest-impact item on the list.
4. Your Glow Accelerator
The tin that does the heavy lifting: the Capri Glow Accelerator goes on clean, dry skin before sun exposure, drenches skin in coconut oil, shea and tyrosine, and sets you up for a deeper-looking, more even, longer-lasting glow. No fake tan, no colour, no streaks. One 150ml tin covers a two-week trip; the 3-for tier exists because running out on day nine is a known heartbreak.
5. After-sun care (before you need it)
Everyone packs after-sun after the first pink evening. Buy it before you fly: an aloe-rich gel or a calming lotion for hot, tight skin. And remember your accelerator doubles as a gorgeous post-sun body cream — hydrated skin is the difference between a tan that lasts and one that flakes off by Thursday.
6. A hat with a real brim
Not a cap, a brim. Face, ears, neck and scalp parting are the most-burned real estate on any holiday, and a wide-brimmed hat is shade you can wear to lunch. It also keeps your colour developing evenly instead of your forehead sprinting three shades ahead of everything else.
7. An oversized shirt or kaftan
The glow-keeper's secret: shade on demand. A floaty, oversized shirt over your swimwear between 12 and 3 protects the colour you're building from the harshest UV window without sending you back to the room. Linen or cotton, light colour, endlessly re-wearable.
8. A refillable insulated water bottle
A tan is held together by hydration, inside and out. Heat, salt, chlorine, alcohol and air-con all pull water out of your skin, and dehydrated skin sheds — taking your tan with it. An insulated bottle keeps water cold enough by the pool that you'll actually drink it.
9. SPF lip balm
Lips burn faster than almost anywhere else and can't tan — burnt lips just crack and peel while the rest of you glows. An SPF 30+ lip balm lives in every pocket, bag and beach tote you own. The frequent flyers have three.
The poolside mini-kit
Your big bottles stay at the villa; the beach bag gets the decanted crew. A travel-size SPF for top-ups, your lip SPF, sunglasses with real UV400 protection (cheap tinted lenses without it are worse than none — they make your pupils open wider to more UV), a hair tie, and a small mist or water spray for hot skin. Add a zip-lock for your phone and you're set for the swim-reapply-repeat cycle without trekking back to the room.
What to leave at home
Anything in glass you love, your full skincare actives collection (retinol and strong acids on sun-exposed skin is a peeling speedrun — simplify for the week), and the 'just in case' heels. Every frequent flyer learns the same lesson: the bag you carry home should be lighter than the one you brought, and the only thing you want to bring back is the glow.
The night-before checklist
- 1Full-body exfoliation with the mitt, then a rich layer of moisturiser.
- 2Accelerator, SPF and after-sun into the hold bag, lids taped.
- 3Face SPF, lip balm and hat into the hand luggage — they fly with you.
- 4Water bottle empty through security, filled at the first fountain after.
- 5Boarding pass, obviously. But you had that one.
Pack for the glow you want to come home with, not just the one you want on day one.
Capri glow rule: no tan is worth a burn. The Glow Accelerator contains no sun protection — SPF goes on top, every time, and gets reapplied like clockwork.
